Fashion Keyhole...

Have you picked up a fashion Magazine recently and looked through its colourful pages? If you have and you managed to navigate through the myriads of ads and useless information to take a look at what the gurus of fashion have in store for us this fall and winter , a surprise awaits you on the other end. It looks like everything and anything goes this season where fashion is concerned. They say that hemlines move up and down in accordance with the stock market and economy. This season the catwalks were adorned with micro minis, mindi and maxi hems. It makes me wonder what this is saying about the state of affairs in general. Is our economy so erratic? It has also been observed in times of economic recession the fashion powers decorate their creations with flowery prints and ultra feminine designs. It’s their attempt to return to core family values and exude feel good vibes.
Looking at what we are expected to cover ourselves up with this fall and winter, I can’t help but wonder “are things this bad?”, the miss mass of styles and trends, the diversity of designs tell me that the fashion brains were drained this year and they borrowed from the creations of the yesteryears to amuse us. Fashion is always in a continuous cycle with styles being recycled every few years. However usually the majority of the designers stick to a few basic trends and keep the rest for their next collection. Not this season!
For this fall and winter we see Lace and lady like creations reminiscent of Breakfast at Tiffany’s; Bold colour combinations with Electric Purple, Royal Blue and Emerald Green holding top spot; Masculine silhouettes, Military designs, Knits, and Fur taking us back to the Dr. Zhivago era. Leather is back in fashion showing the wilder side of Rock chic. Urban chic clean lines underlined with big sleeves and asymmetrical hems; Twid and Tartan softening the lines in an epicurean twist of Savile Row tailoring meets High street. Coats with poufy sleeves and big collars, silk and satin blouses, capes, ankle boots, platforms, over the knee boots, funky over designed ultra high heels, chunky necklaces, head scarves... you name it and this season is available. A delightful explosion really as there is something for every taste in store, a perfect time to invest in some beautiful classics, which we will be able to use for many years to come.
One of my favourite new additions in the fashion scene recently is a new label by John Galliano name “galliano” sporting a younger bolder look. Think street glamour meets a romantic fantasy, 30’s style married to the fairy tale like stories of the Far East. Sumptuous materials such as velvet, silk, satin and brocade mixed with fine wools and rich furs. Pale gray, black, beige, pale rose highlighted with rich bold red, green and purples, the result is a sensuous cornucopia that only John Galliano knows how to create and all these comes with a more approachable price tag.
Enjoy!
