August Magic…

Hmm… it’s been a while since I have had a chance to scribble a couple of lines. Not sure how people do it, between everything that is happening I really have to plan a time to write a few words. Well in the end it all come down to priorities I guess and mine have been to enjoy London, go on vacation and play on the sun this August.
Two weeks after my arrival to London I packed a small bag and headed to Rhodes. I landed right in the middle of a heat wave and temperatures were between 37C and 43C. Gloriously hot! Ten days of sun worshiping and playing in the water with my seven year old daughter. It was magical despite all the family dramas that pocked their head out daily trying to cloud my holidays. I was in a different dimension. Come to think of it I have been in a different dimension since my move to London. I have to keep pinching myself to make sure it’s not just a dream. If it is, let me never wake up!
After spending most of the summer stressing about the move the after facts have exceeded my expectations. My new home is fantastic, the location couldn’t have been better. My commute to work easy, just a short 20- 30 mins on the tube each way, and my colleagues are pleasant and funny. We are almost done with the unpacking phase and smoothly moving into the fun phase of shopping and decorating our flat.
Simply I am very happy!
Keeping on the theme of trying new things this summer for the first time ever I didn’t take my laptop with me on my holiday. I was in need of serious resting and having my laptop with me would have meant that I would have worked half of the day which defies the purpose of going on a holiday. It was not easy… My email withdrawal symptoms kicked in fast and hard. I found myself feeling restless and itching to check email… wanting to keep on top of what was going on. I felt disconnected from the world and I was. I had to so something and fast. So I started going for walks early in the morning, going to the beach and having fun, blocking from my memory my electronic addiction. Easier said than done but definitely achievable, so achievable, that in the end I missed my direct flight back to London… I was that disconnected from reality that I totally messed up the timing of my return flight and turned a 4hr trip into a 32 hour trip… how you might ask...
Since all the flights from Rhodes were totally booked for a week, I ended up taking the ferry back to Athens. I left the island last Thursday at 4pm and arrived in Athens at 11:30am the next day. From Athens I had a flight to London at 7pm last Friday, which gave me enough time to see my younger brother who was nice enough to pick me up from the port and drive me later to the airport.
I felt like a modern time adventurer… the whole thing was pretty hilarious! It was fate moving the strings of my life so I can visit with my little brother. It was fate pushing me to make a trip with a boat so I can trace in my memory banks all the times I had taken that trip as a kid. I was fate testing my patience, a rude awaking back to reality. Overall, if it was any other way it wouldn’t have been the same. My adventure, added a few more colors to the painting of my August holiday creating vivid memories for the years to come…
