Commencing of the Coffee Breaks…
After a long deliberation, counting of free time and spinning the wheel of fortune to see what the future upholds for me... I decided to join the masses of blog nations in order to keep in touch with friends around the globe...
For the past three years I have been calling home the picturesque Amsterdam in the Netherlands. A capricious city full of color and texture. A Global village with many beautiful sides that fall transparent to the eyes of typical tourist.
I don't call myself a tourist and I don't call myself an Amsterdamer either, I fall somewhere between the two... a curious traveler that has been lucky enough to discover the multiple personalities of this city and it's shortcomings at the same time, while meeting some interesting people in the process.
There have been many writings about Amsterdam through history and I am not about to reiterate what has already been said. I should have done that years ago, when I first set foot on its soft grounds lined with winding canals and architecture that takes you back to former glories.
I am about to embark on new adventures that will take me across the sea to London. A new place to call home is in the horizon and my time in the land of clogs, windmills and tulips will always hold a special place in my heart and memories.
The countdown has started and my list of things to do and see before I board the plane is growing. Needless to say that I have re-discovered a lost relationship with my digital camera that has been collecting dust for a long time, only coming out to accompany me in one of the many business trips. These days it’s a permanent feature in my bag; adding weight to what already feels heavy. It’s a canning distraction to weekends and evenings filled with drinking escapades.
Its summer after all, at least in the calendar because you can’t really tell looking at the cloud covered skies full of water ready to open up at any minute. We are thankful for the brief sun sightings and the days where the water around the city is shimmering with delight providing an excuse to be outside. Working on that elusive tan is a favorite pass time of Amsterdamers and visitors alike. The terraces of the cafes fill with people all lined up facing the sun in a silent worship. While finding a spot to rest in the local parks proves to be a challenging task… the canals jam packed with boats of every size, boarded with smug faced individuals make for an interesting convoy of colors and music.
Yes it will be with mixed emotions that I will leave behind what I have come to call home. My stay in Amsterdam has been a trip of self discovery in many ways. While dodging bikes, trams and groups of tourists flooding the narrow streets of the city, I discovered hidden talents and passions. Experiences that will escort me on my destiny path in the years to come...
